Executive Summary:

While Research for Conservation remains the Wilderness & Wildlife Conservation Trust’s (WWCT) focus, with 9 varied study sites monitored this year, we find ourselves increasingly, additionally engaged in other aspects of wider biodiversity conservation.

Our education and awareness outreach operations are expanding, with more resource material being

created in-house by our multitalented team. Highlights in 2025 include the publication of our Activity Workbook 2 (Ecosystems & Biodiversity), a children’s book on the threat of snares and 2 calendars. WWCT increased the frequency of our snare patrolling, actively removing snares and providing infield

community awareness.

A new island-wide campaign was launched this year, spearheaded by partner DFCC bank, to raise awareness about the leopard’s role as an umbrella for biodiversity conservation, the threats it faces, and solutions for wildlife-human coexistence.

Habitat restoration has become a more integral component in our fragile Central Highland sites, where the restoration of parcels of degraded lands continues. We are happy to report that new partners, including the Global Environment Facility -7th round, are increasingly supporting this vital intervention.

As research remains key to our efforts, long-term monitoring continued in several study sites across the island, with new surveys initiated to identify key additional wildlife corridors in the Central Highlands. Remote cameras remain our most important research tool although together with the Wildlife Department we hope to continue to deploy GPS-telemetry collars to track released leopards where possible.
