AWARENESS PROGRAMMES

Education for schools

Across all programmes WWCT conducted in 2022, a total of 500+ students were lectured. In 2023, 15 schools in the PRFC were included in Education & Awareness programs. These programs included art competitions which focused on local wilderness and wildlife. A group of students from Dunkeld school also visited Dunkeld Conservation Station with a WWCT outreach officer to learn about watershed forests and the forest plant nursery. Later, in November, WWCT ran a tree planting program at Dunkeld school in which students and staff members participated. In addition, a Forest Guardian resource room was set up with resource material on wildlife and conservation outreach.

Talks and Lectures

WWCT conducted numerous talks and interviews in 2023 such as at the Sri Lanka Natural History Society, Overseas School of Colombo, Ladies College, Roar Media, LMD Online, and more. WWCT presented three full length talks at the 2023 Global Leopard Conference. The conference brought together leopard experts from around the world to discuss their work with each other. They were honoured to have been asked to give the summary talk for this week-long conference.
